5 skincare habits for clear glowing skin

I'm sure we all have or have had problems of some sort with our skin; here are 8 habits to introduce into your daily routine to improve your skin.

  1. Cleansing before bed

Cleansing your skin at night is very important to remove all the makeup, sunscreen and dirt from your skin before applying the rest of your skincare products. Even if you don't wear makeup it is still important to cleanse probably every night before going to bed; We shed over 40,000 skin cells every hour, this provides the perfect breeding ground for bacteria leading to acne. If you wear makeup, or sunscreen I would recommend doing a double cleanse; A double cleanse involves using an oil-based cleanser such as a cleansing oil, cleansing balm, or micellar water to cleanse first and then following that up with your normal cleanser.

2. Wearing sunscreen every day

In my opinion, sunscreen is the most essential part of any skincare routine. Sunscreen helps to protect your skin from UV. It is crucial to protect your skin from UV if you are looking for youthful skin as studies have found that UV exposure causes 80% of skin ageing. UV exposure can also cause acne and darken acne scarring. I personally found that applying sunscreen consistently was the best way to get rid of my acne. I would recommend looking for Korean sunscreens as they tend to be lighter and they don't smell like traditional sunscreen.

3. Changing pillowcase at least once a week

Your pillowcase collects a lot of dirt and oils, even if you cleanse your skin every night. Your pillowcase is probably covered in oils from your hair and skin, dead skin cells, and other dirt, which can't be seen with the naked eye, all of this can clog up pores and cause acne. This is why it is important to change your pillowcase at least once a week. I would also recommend investing in a silk pillowcase as silk is much more gentle on the skin.

4. Consistently applying your skincare

When it comes to skincare consistency is key; many people expect products to work within a few days, however, it takes at least a month for you to see even small improvements from most products. Even after a product has done what you want it to these positive effects can be quickly reversed if you stop using the product or stop doing your skincare routine. So if you want clear, glowing skin makes sure you at least do the bare minimum twice a day.

5. Getting enough sleep

When we sleep our skin repairs itself, therefore if you aren't getting enough sleep your skin is not able to repair. Not getting enough sleep can also disrupt your skins moisture levels and lower your skin's PH, this leads to skin that looks less youthful and has less glow.

I hope you found some of these helpful and will try to introduce them into your daily routine.
